The practice of drinking tea has had a long history in China. Although tea originates from China, Chinese tea generally represent tea leaves which have been processed using methods inherited from ancient China. According to popular legend, tea was discovered by Chinese Emperor Shennong in 2737 BC when a leaf from a Camellia sinensis tree fell into water the emperor was boiling. Tea is deeply woven into the history and culture of China and is considered one of the seven necessities of Chinese life, along with firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce and vinegar.

Tannic acid in tea is known for its anti-inflammatory and germicidal properties. Chinese tea also eases digestion, prevent halitosis, and brings about a slight drop in blood pressure. Chinese tea is also rich in various vitamins and for smokers, it helps to discharge nicotine out of the system. A cup of Chinese tea can soothe, rejuvenate and relax. In summer or warm climate in China, Chinese tea is drank to dispel the heat and bring on an instant cool mixed together with a feeling of relaxation.
